Catalina Foothills put together the best round (+8, 296) of the Mesa City Championships on Saturday, Oct. 22 to win the trophy by one stroke over Red Mountain (602-603). Red Mountain led the field by six strokes after the first round on Friday.
Tanque Verde survived a scare Monday night when Pusch Ridge took a 2-1 lead over the Hawks in an important 3A South Region match. The Hawks battled back, however, to win the match 3-2 to keep pace with Sabino for the region title.

Salpointe went 5-0 to capture the championship of the Catalina Foothills Lady Falcon Invitational. The Lancers beat Rincon/University 3-1 in the final.
Sahuaro sophomore standout Halley Hughes played even on her first three holes and even on the last three to hold off her teammate Serenity Guerrero 39 to 40 Thursday afternoon at the Dell Urich Golf Course in Tucson. The two helped Sahuaro score 178 as a team to defeat Buena (209) and Rincon/University (230).
Ironwood Ridge had a setback on Tuesday when Cienega came in and beat the Nighthawks on their own court. It was a huge win for the Bobcats but it also came five days after getting swept by Sahuaro.

All the 6A Southern Region teams have a bye week.
Cienega (5-0) at Salpointe (4-1) and Amphitheater (3-2) vs. Sahuarita (1-4) are the only non-region games in Southern Arizona.
Pending district approval, Sahuaro has recommended Darren Blakely to take over the baseball program at the school. Blakely, a longtime minor-leaguer coming out of the University of Hawaii, played for Team USA in the 2003 World Cup in Cuba and now resides in Tucson.
