Basha and Chandler high schools. Undefeated this season heading to Thursday night's matchup. Never played one another in a varsity football game in the seven years they've had the opportunity to do so

Sister schools. Just 11 miles apart.

Was it worth the wait? If you like offense it was.

Basha quarterback Kyle Duran passed for 409 yards, two touchdowns and rushed for three more scores to highlight a scoring extravaganza that carried the Bears to a 58-41 win at Basha High.

A lot of pregame hype centered on Basha's high-scoring offense against Chandler's three-shutout defense. That matchup belonged to Basha (4-0) as it kept a 57-point-a-game average intact. The teams combined for 1,210 yards of offense.

And while Basha gave up 41 points to the Wolves' potent offense, the Bears turned two Chandler turnovers into a pair of first-half field goals and added two more takeaways in the second half. Basha now has 13 takeaways on defense in its four contests. That aided an offense that proved it doesn't need much help.

Duran, a 5-foot-11, 195-pound senior, had plenty of time to throw all night and took advantage. He completed 23-of-38 attempts with no interceptions. He passed for 329 of those yards in the opening half.  Basha coach Bernie Busken opted to go more to the running game in the second half and that facet worked well, too. It allowed Basha to control the clock, rest its defense and produce a game-clinching drive in the fourth period that put Chandler (3-1) away. Thirteen of Duran's completions were to junior Nate Phillips, who acccounted for 225 of Duran's 409 yards.

Basha led just 44-41 seconds in to the final period after a 10-yard touchdown run by Chandler quarterback Darell Garretson. Basha took possession for its next drive at its 23 and drove 77 yards in 19 plays to extend the lead to 51-41 with 4:17 left. The march consumed nearly 7 1/2 minutes. Basha converted three fourth-down plays as Busken, who normally opts for field goals even with fourth-and-short and a makeable opportunity, decided a touchdown was crucial  on a night when defenses weren't making stops.

Basha used the two-pronged rushing prowess of Myles Smith and J.J. Husar effectively in the second half. Smith was the workhorse in the third period and a fresh Husar did the damage in the fourth period, partilcularly on the game-clinching march. Smith had a 46-yard TD run and Husar found the end zone on a 10-yard run.

Garretson didn't have a shabby night passing for Chandler. The junior threw for 343 yards and three touchdowns -- all to wide out Lloyd Mills. He was intercepted twice, one leading to one of three Justin Barber field goals for Basha. Chandler running back Paul Perkins also enjoyed a big night with 153 yards on 12  carries.
