In the first game of the Salpointe Tip-Off Classic, Canyon del Oro beat Pueblo 74-63 behind balanced scoring from junior guard Jano Medina (18 points), junior forward Tyler Lerew (18), senior guard Juan Martinez (16) and junior guard Antonio Vasquez (12).

The game was tied 27-27 with 6:36 left in the third quarter but the Dorados went on a 19-1 run to take a 46-28 lead with 2:29 left in the quarter. Still, the Warriors battled back to get within 55-48 with 4:53 left in the game but the Dorados were able to regroup to pull away down the stretch.

Junior guard Ismael Galindo (17) and sophomore forward Jacob Vega (16) came up big for the Warriors.

Jason Apodaca is in his first season with the Dorados and he is assisted by former Dorado and Arizona State basketball standout Mike Redhair. The Dorados went 9-60 over the last three seasons.

In the second game, Ironwood Ridge beat Desert View 74-46 with former Hamilton and Grand Canyon hurdler Le’Sean Marks taking over coaching duties with the Nighthawks. Junior Trey Cox (16), junior Erik Cochran (15), senior Rian Palma and junior Ryan Drescher (10) helped lead the Dorados to victory.

The Jaguars were led by senior guard Matthew Ruiz (14), junior guard Uriel Olivares (14) and senior guard Elijah Williams (13).

Nogales took care of Tucson 72-47 in the third game of the night senior guard Alan Contreras (21), senior guard David Villa (10) and senior forward Luis Martinez (9) led the Apaches while senior guard Marcus Hinojosa (13) and senior guard Joseph Shelby (12) led the Badgers.

In the nightcap, Salpointe beat Sahuarita 88-49 with former University of Arizona assistant and current Pepperdine head coach Lorenzo Romar in attendance, presumably to keep tabs on Lancer senior standout Majok Deng.

Deng scored 22 points in limited action due to a running clock and junior standout Evan Nelson added 14. Junior guard Byron Brown (15) and senior guard Benicio Mejia (11) led the Mustangs.
