Brophy Prep made it 31 swim and dive titles in a row this weekend getting a push from Chaparral for the top spot, but still notching a decisive victory at the Division I boys meet at Skyline Aquatic Center.

Brophy finished with 410.5 points with Chaparral next at 356. Mountain View (261.5) was third, Basha (167) fourth and Corona del Sol (145) fifth.

Leading the way for Brophy were senior Parker Hughes and junior Matt Milovanovic. Hughes won the 100 free and Milovanovic was first in the 100 back. Hughes took home three golds anchoring the 200 free relay and 400 free relay to victory. Milovanovic added a second gold as part of the 400 free relay.

The lone two-event winner was Chaparral junior Matt LeBlanc, who took the top spot in the 200 IM and 100 breast. LeBlanc was also part of the winning 200 medley relay. LeBlanc is now a three-time state champ in the 200 IM and 100 breast.

Overall six different schools boasted individual-event winners. Besides LeBlanc, Hughes and Milovanovic, titles went to Pinnacle junior Dylan Melin (200 free), Boulder Creek junior Jon Carlo LoVullo (50 free), Desert Ridge sophomore Essias Smith (100 fly), Chaparral junior Ellis Bohon (500 free) and Skyline freshman Daniel Knapp (diving).

 

D-I GIRLS

Chaparral, as expected, met little resistance in claiming the D-I title and its fifth team championship in a row including the past two D-II titles (2016 and 2017) and two D-I crowns in (2014 and 2015).

The Firebirds totaled 477. 5 points besting Xavier Prep, who was runner-up with 301. Mountain View (268) was third, Red Mountain (170) fourth and Highland (136) fifth.

Chaparral sophomores Ashley Strouse and Greer Pattison racked up two individual-event titles each with both ending up the most decorated athletes at the meet in terms of gold medals (four). Strouse won the 200 free and 500 free, setting a state record in the 200 free. She anchored the 200 free relay team that set a state record and swam the first leg of the winning 400 free relay. Pattison won the 50 free and 100 back, swam the leadoff leg of the 200 free relay and anchored the 400 free relay. 

A third swimmer took home two individual titles -- Mountain View freshman Emma Becker. Becker won the 200 IM and 100 breast. Westwood senior Natalie Crisci was the winner in the 100 fly and Perry junior Kalli Fama was victorious in the 100 free. Skyline senior Victoria Knapp wrapped up her career with a fourth consecutive diving title, edging last year's D-II champ Mia Waters of Chaparral.
