North, Westwood set to face off for first time in more than a decade

Westwood will face North at home Friday for the first time in more than a decade.
This Class 6A non-region game could be a close match, but with North’s overall record being 2-6 and Westwood’s being 4-4, it seems that Westwood might have the advantage.
“I think we have the ability to win this game as long as our players go into it with the right mentality and really work to play together as a team,” Westwood football coach Kyle Ide said.
According to common opponents as well as observing the similarities in both teams' games, what they play and the formations run, the teams have fairly equal skill sets. With both teams entering this game coming off of wins last week, they are all hungry for more.
"I think it’s going to be a tough game but one that we think we can win,” North coach Adan Mendoza. “It’s going to be a tough game because it’s going to be either we bully our way into a win or they bully their way into a win."
A huge factor in this week's game for North will be if it can find a way to stop the trend it has had of having excessive turnovers and penalties. Mendoza said this week they are going to start bringing in some of the younger players who have been playing well on the lower teams.
“I’m actually a little excited to see in the next two weeks what these younger guys can do,” Mendoza said. “Not only to see how good they are but also to give them some confidence for next year and the years to come.”
With such evenly matched teams, the real deciding factor of the game will be how North carries itself going into the second half of the game. Westwood has been known to be a second-half team so far this year, where North tends to stay fairly static throughout the entire game.
