Westwood TOC volleyball offers hot and heavy competition

The four schools that comprised the 5A-I semifinalists in 2010 are the top seeds this weekend at the 20th annual Westwood Tournament of Champions volleyballl inviational hosted by Westwood High.
Defending champion Xavier, Gilbert, Desert Vista and Hamilton head the 36-team field that competes at four Mesa high schools - Westwood, Mesa, Red Mountain and Skyline. Pool play begins Friday Sept. 9 at noon and runs through approximately 6 p.m. It resumes Saturday morning Sept. 10 at 9 at the same sites.
Each team plays six matches within its pool. The top three teams in each pool advance to Saturday afternoon's gold division bracket at Westwood. Mesa High hosts the 4-5 seeds from each pool in the silver division, Red Mountain the 6-7 seeds in the bronze division and Skyline the 8-9 seeds in the copper division. Division play is scheduled to commence Saturday at approximately 1 p.m. with the finals for each idivision set for late afternoon.
Here are the pool assignments for the tournament: Pool A -- Xavier, Cactus Shadows, Ironwood Ridge, Basha, Corona del Sol, Chandler, Pinnacle, Westwood and Mesquite. Pool B -- Gilbert, Desert Mountain, Mountain Pointe, Seton, Mesa Mtn. View, Deer Valley, Mesa, Canyon del Oro, Sunnyside. Pool C -- Desert Vista, Horizon, SAlpointe, Desert Ridge, Chaparral, Centennial, Saguaro, Red Mountain and Dobson. Pool D -- Hamilton, Sunnyslope, Mountain Ridge, Highland, Thatcher, Ironwood, Marcos de Niza, McClintock and Skyline.
