Molly West tells her Dersert Vista volleyball team to "play like we practice.''
The hard work done in an empty gym paid off Thursday as Desert Vista remained unbeaten after two games with a 3-0 sweep of Westview.
Brooke Blutreich with more than 10 kills and five digs and Jennifer Soto with more than five kills dominated. Blutreich said the crowd got her and the teamd fired up in the first set.
“They just got me fired up and the rest of the team fired up,” Blutreich said. Her power and agility was unmatched by her opponents. One could feel the passion and the pride she had after every kill and dig she added.
The game got close in the second set as Westview led early but Soto and Blutreich righted the team. Then, the ball didn’t hit the floor for a while.
“It felt really good cause like you just have that momentum and it just keeps going and it keeps building up and the hype is amazing,” Soto said.
Although the home crowd seemed to have held its breath in the second set, it was never noticeable in the players. They fed off each other’s energy.
Blutreich and Soto were quick to credit the he entire team. “I think we came and we did what we were supposed to. We finished the game just like she should’ve, in three, and we did our jobs,” Soto said.
Said Blutreich: “I feel like we did really well. We’re super young so winning this game…pretty good, pretty good."
West said Soto is playing hard, very experienced and very mature and Blutreich is a solid player as well. "They’re both big leaders for the team. It’s noticeable. Blutreich and Soto will do whatever it takes to help their team out. It’s always fun to kinda watch them.”
