Nighthawk Girls Invitational

Aug. 24-25: Omni Tucson National

 

Xavier walked away with the team trophy with a remarkable 24-under-par outing at the Ironwood Ridge Nighthawk Invitational this past weekend at the Omni Tucson National, home of the AIA state championships.

Cactus Shadows took second, some 46 strokes behind with a respectable 22-over finish and Hamilton took third.

Individually, Xavier junior standout Ashley Menne led from beginning to end with an 11-under 132 for the two-round event. She led teammate Breyana Matthews 66-67 after day one on Friday but Menne held steady with another 66 on Saturday for the 5-stroke victory. Salpointe standout Alexandra Quihuis and Xavier standout Bailee Tayles tied for third with a 5-under 138.

Xavier Prep and Hamilton compete in Division I while Cactus Shadows and Salpointe play in D-II. An Arizona State commit, Menne won the D-I championship as a freshman and as a sophomore. Quihuis took second at the D-II state playoffs last year.

AZ Boys Fall Preview

Aug. 24-25: Grand Canyon

 

Williams Field won the Chez Reavie Division of the Arizona Fall Preview played at the Grand Canyon Golf Course this past weekend and Ironwood Ridge took the Charlie Beljan Division. Williams Field took second place at the D-II state championships last year.

Individually, Williams Field standout Rylan Johnson beat Catalina Foothills standout Jake Goode 138-141 to win the Chez Reavie title and Ironwood Ridge standout Connor Wierman beat his teammate Jarrod Johnson 146-148 to win the Charlie Beljan trophy. Goode took second at the D-II state playoffs last year.

Brophy Boys Invitational

Aug. 24-25: Grayhawk Golf Club

 

Defending D-II state champion Arcadia beat D-I champion Chaparral by one stroke (602-603) to win the Brophy Invitational. Hamilton tied for second with Chaparral and Brophy took fourth. Brophy took second place at state last year and Hamilton took third, which means Arcadia swept the top three D-I winners from last year and seven of the top eight.

Brophy standout Tony Hendricks took the individual title by four strokes over Preston Summerhays of Chaparral. Hendricks took second at state last year.
