Football: Highland getting the best of Hamilton, 28-7
August 24, 2018 by Les Willsey, AZPreps365
Lightning ultimately prevented Highland and Hamilton from completing their Week 2 contest Friday night. For the 20 minutes of action the teams completed, lightning struck Hamilton figuratively four times. Four long-play touchdowns enabled Highland to hold a 28-7 lead over the vistiing Huskies. The game will conclude from the 4:02 mark of the second quarter on Saturday at 9 a.m.
Doing most of the damage for Highland (1-0) is two-way senior standout Kohner Cullimore, who is picking up where an outstanding junior campaign left off. Cullimore carried eight times for 121 yards and caught three passes for 54 yards in the 20 minutes of action. Two of his runs were for touchdowns ((43 and 46 yards, respectively) and one reception went the distancet (30 yards). Junior teammate and Daniel Wood unofficially passed the 100-yard mark with six carries for 108 yards and a 68-yard TD run. Senior quarterback Kaleb Herbert put up good numbers as well completing 8 of 10 passes for 101 yards and the score to Cullimore.

Hamilton (0-1) managed one big play before play was stopped by the weather. Quarterback Brandon Schenks rifled a 61-yard TD pass to Brenden Rice late in the first quarter that tied the game at 7. Highland reeled off the next three scores in a seven-minute span before the game was halted for nearly 90 minutes by persistent lightning.
Highland, should it go on to finish off the game Saturday, would snap a nine-game losing streak to Hamilton. The last Highland win over Hamilton came in 2004 at Hamilton. Hamilton will try and rebound Saturday and post the first win for new coach MIke Zdebski.
