So what's your pleasure in an opening-night football matchup this Friday (Aug. 26)?

Is it three-time defending big-school champ Hamilton hosting Mountain Pointe in a 2010 semifinal rematch in the East Valley? How about Salpointe "dropping" a notch and visiting last year's 5A-II champ, Chaparral? Notre Dame Prep stepping up in competition to face Marcos de Niza? Or a number of games marking the debuts of new coaches at schools in the  East Valley?

You're right. Too many choices. Pick one and you're likely to be satisfied. Such is full Week 1 of the Arizona prep football season. Here's a brief look at some of the interesting openers:

MOUNTAIN POINTE AT HAMILTON: Hamilton and Mountain Pointe is not only a matchup of two of the top big-school programs, but Hamilton can set a big school state record for consecutive victories if it prevails. Hamilton tied Mesa Mountain View's mark of 40 straight last December when it hung on to beat Desert Ridge in the 5A-I final at University of Phoenix Stadium. Mountain View won 40 in a row from 1996 through the semifinals of 1998. Hamilton last lost to Centennial the third week of the 2008 season.

Hamilton again is the preseason favorite in what is now Division I. They have lots of retooling to do, much of it up front where the Huskies primary strength was a year ago. Returning a game-breaker like Kendyl Taylor, a running and receiving threat, a quarterback in Blake Kemp with the skills to pilot the offense, and unproven varsity players waiting their chance and Hamilton should score plenty of points. The defense will have more new names than proven ones, but defense has rarely been average or below for the Huskies. Mountain Pointe has the large and more experieced line on offense in this rematch. Running the ball and getting big plays out of sophomore Jalen Brown will be a key.

NOTRE DAME PREP AT MARCOS DE NIZA: In a way, Notre Dame is making a two-step jump in competition. The Saints, a 4A-II semifinalist last year, face the Padres who were in 5A-II. It's a good matchup to see just how Notre Dame stacks up with one of the better Division II schools as its opponent. Both schools return quarterbacks from last year -- Marcos de Niza (Tommy Thornton) and Notre Dame (Jordan Gehrke). Gehrke passed for 359 yards and 2 TDs in the Saints semifinal loss to Williams Field last November.

SALPOINTE AT CHAPARRAL (0-1): This may not seem like a drop in competition to Salpointe, which is used to playing at the big school level. Chaparral has the talent to play with Division I schools but remains content to compete in Division II (5A-II). Salpointe brings super sophomore Cameron Denson, who hauled in 30 receptions for 542 yards and six TDs as a freshman and Sunnyside transfer Andy Cota at quarterbak. Chaparral figures to arrive with a chip on its shoulder after losing to Bishop Gorman. May not be a good time to be Salpointe.

SABINO AT CIENEGA: Cienega  doesn't have an overwhelmiing schedule. It might be one of the lightest of the top Division II teams. This opener with Sabino, a possible Diviision III contender, is one of the better games on teh Bobcats schedule. With many of its top skill players lost to graduation, Cienega will look to a talented junior varsity ascending and a few holdovers. Sunnyside transfer Manny Vera, one of the top running backs in Tucson, will help ease some skill losses. Sabino will count on Dallas Brown to take over as the leader of its offense with graduation losses gutting the front line players. Sabino is actually moving down a notch with Division III being more like 4A-II was the past few years. Both schooils were 4A-I last year.

Other games of note: Ironwood Ridge at Canyon del Oro (D-II) -- The Tucson rivals opened the season last year with CDO prevailing, 26-13. Ironwood Ridge was a 5A-II semifinalist and CDO lost the 4A-I title game to Saguaro in a shootout. Mesa Mountain View at Desert Mountain (D-I) -- It's the debut of new Mountain View coach Chad DeGrenier - only the fourth coach in 31 years for the Toros. Mesquite at Highland (D-I) -- The debut of Matt Gracey for Mesquite, a former coach in northern Arizona at Winslow High. Gracey takes over a Wildcats team that reached the big-school quarterfinals last season. Corona del Sol at Basha (D-I) --  It's the debut of Tom Joseph with the Aztecs. Joseph was let go by Mountain View last November and oddly enough faces the coach he took over for at Mountain View in 2002, Basha's Bernie Busken. Basha ended up the No. 2 seed in 5A-I last year in Busken's first season. Campo Verde at Apache Junction (D-III) -- Former Apache Junction coach Max Ragsdale takes his Campo Verde  to the school he coached at in the mid-2000s. Campo Verde will try and spoil the debut of new AJ coach Justin McDonald. It's Campo Verde's first  year competing for a state championship after playing an independent schedule last year. On Saturday, Northwest Christian at Yuma Catholic (D-V) -- This is a rematch of the 2A championship game from last year, won by Northwest Christian. Northwest Christian beat Yuma Catholic twice last year, 14-10 in the regular season and 30-27 in the title game.
