Top-seeded Brophy Prep endured an uphill climb against upstart #13 Corona del Sol while #2 Desert Vista knocked Chandler from the unbeaten ranks at the 6A boys state soccer tournament on Wednesday night at Campo Verde High School.

Brophy's Connor White and Ryan Niehoff scored in the overtime sessions to help deliver the unbeaten Broncos a 3-1 victory over Corona del Sol in the early semifinal and keep the Broncos unbeaten. Brophy advances to the championship match for the first time since 2014. Desert Vista got goals from Max Wennes and Jonathan Munoz to subdue Chandler 2-1 in the late semi, dealing the Wolves their only loss of the season. Desert Vista will make its first trip to the title match since 2013 and faces off with Brophy on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Campo Verde.

Brophy (21-0-2) ended up getting all it wanted from Corona del Sol, which won a pair of road matches over Rincon University and Pinnacle to reach the semis. Corona scored in the 12th minute when the Aztecs' Henry Olivares challenged Brophy's keeper attempting a goal kick. Olivares essentially stole the ball and rammed home a shot from 25 yards out to stun the Broncos.

Corona (10-9-2) kept the 1-0 lead despite numerous Brophy scoring chances until the 61st minute when Senior forward Carter Clemmensen worked some magic in the box. Clemmensen made a nice spin move by the near post and rocketed the ball into the net at the far post for the 1-1 tie that provided an overtime opportunity.

The Broncos wasted little time in the first OT taking the lead two minutes in. White took a feed from Clemmensen and drilled an open shot from 10 yards out. Corona's bid at an upset ended for good in the 97th minute as Niehoff buried an easy chance off Clemmensen's second assist of the evening. Overtime in big games had come Brophy's way earlier this season.

"We've been there before," Brophy coach Paul Allen said. "We went to overtime twice in Dallas. Our boys are fit and we put away our chances in overtime."

Desert Vista (16-4-2) and Chandler (19-1-5) were playing for the third time this year and played to ties in the first two -- one in an early-season invitational and the other a power-ranking game last month. There had to be a winner this time. Desert Vista scored the first two goal of the contest. The first was by Wennes, the Thunder's leading scorer. He converted a corner sent his way by Parker Lischwe in the 25th minute. Chandler had few opportunities in the first half with most coming in the final minutes of the half. The Wolves trailed 1-0 at intermission.

Munoz made it 2--0 Desert Vista in the 46th minute. Munoz deposited the rebound of a shot by Wennes that Chandler keeper Bryan Bautista rejected putting the Wolves in a rare two-goals deficit.

Chandler pulled within 2-1 in the 62nd minute on a goal by Rodrigo Olguin off a set piece. Chandler had two more good opportunities in the final 18 minutes, but Desert Vista's back line and keeper Logan Rabasca kept their net clean. Chandler was bidding for its second title-game appearance in the last four years. The Wolves won the title in 2015.
