Eric Farris, a Hamilton High graduate, got his first stint in the big leagues this week when the infielder was called up from the Milwaukee Brewers Triple-A affiliate to replace injured all-star Rickie Weeks.
Farris helped Hamiilton to the 2003 and 2004 5A state baseball titles and played collegiately at Loyola Marymount. Farris is the first Hamilton player to make an active major league roster. Farris hit .256 with six homers, 36 RBI and 14 steals for Nashville this season.
"I was telling my wife the other night when I saw Weeks get hurt that they'd probably bring up Eric," Hamilton coach Mike Woods said. "Sure enough, I got a text from him and he was on his way to Milwaukee."
Been a good couple weeks for Woods, as Cody Ransom, who played in junior high for Woods when he coached at Anderson Junior High before Hamilton opened in the early 1990s.
One week Ransom, a Chandler High product, gets the call for injured Stephen Drew. The next, Farris for Rickie Weeks. Good stuff for Chandler.
