D-I and D-II state track and field champions Day 1

The first day of the Division I and Division II boys and girls state track meet concluded Wednesday night with a state record in boys discus and double-winner in girls distance races at Mesa Community College.
The state record went to Canyon del Oro's Turner Washington (D-II) in the discus, who broke his state record for the third time this year. Washington unleashed a throw of 218 feet, 7 inches to better the previous mark of 217-5 and before that 215-8.
The double winner in the 800-meters and 1,600 meters went to Chandler's Morgan Foster (D-I) Foster's times were 2:12.14 in the 800 and 4:52.79 in the 1,600.

D-I boys champions: Long jump -- Trey Johnson, Tolleson 24-5 3/4. High jump: Dallas Dixon, Tolleson 6-6. Discus: Elijah Mason, Desert Vista 203-9. Javelin -- Carlan Naisant, Marcos de Niza 197-1. 3,200 relay -- Hamilton 7:57.31. 3,200 -- Thomas Cain, Cibola 9:23.58.
D-I girls champions: Pole vault -- Madelyn Lundberg, Sandra Day O'Connor 12-3. Triple jump -- Tiana Poirer-Shelton, Chandler 40-1 1/2. Shot put -- Kayleigh Conlon, Mtn. Pointe 46-9. Javelin -- Maja Ahmann, Chaparral 142-4.
D-II boys champions: Long jump -- Shamar Moreland, Betty Fairfax 23-9. High jump -- Cameron Crandall, Canyon del Oro 7-0. 3,200 relay -- Shadow Ridge 7:57.75. 3,200 -- Manuel Olivo-Quinones, Buena 9:16.36.
D-II girls champions: Pole vault -- Katherine Daily, Flowing Wells 11-6. Triple jump -- Mele Hala'ufia, Marana 37-4 1/4. Shot put -- Alexis Jones, Queen Creek 40-5 3/4. 1,600 -- Abi Archer, Chaparral 5:04.75. 800 -- Alexa Hakanson, Cactus Shadows 2:15.58. Long jump -- Jadyn Mays, North Canyon 19-1 3/4.
