Scott Timmer has decided to go out on top at Valley Christian as the school's girls basketball coach.

Timmer has announced his decision to step down as head coach of the program, but will continue his roles in teaching and as assistant athletic director. The resignation came in an email sent out by the school's director of communications, Bryan Winfrey.

Timmer has led VC girls basketball program for the past 20 years and is stepping down to spend more time with family. He has recorded over 500 wins at Valley Christian and his teams have played in six state championship games, winning three state titles. The Trojans finished 26-3 and won this year’s 3A state championship with Timmer earning 3A coach of the year honors. Valley Christian edged Page, 41-40, in this year's title game on Feb. 25.

“We’re very grateful to Scott and his dedication to Valley Christian and the girls basketball program," Valley Christian athletic director Greg Haagsma said. " We thank him on behalf of all of his players, their families, and our community for the positive impact he has had, not just on Valley Christian but on girls basketball in the state. Personally, I’ve been able to enjoy coaching alongside Scott for the last 20 years and have witnessed and appreciated the amount of work he has put in to create such a successful program.”
