Basha softball coach Scott Hoffmeyer resigns

Basha's Scott Hoffmeyer has resigned as the school's head softball coach after 13 seasons and does so as the school's most successful coach in any sport in its 13-year hiistory.
Basha athletic director Brent Rincon made the announcement on Wednesday. He said Hoffmeyer currently plans on remaining as a teacher next year at Basha and recently secured his administrative certificate.
"Scott has been an important piece at Basha from the time he started here," Rincon said. "He's been an outstanding coach and teacher. He's helped turn out countless players at the next level, and has coached other sports besides sottball -- football, girls basketball I can recall."
Hoffmeyer boasts a career record of 302 wins and 131 losses in his tenure as head coach. That includes state titles in 2008 and 2009 and runner-up finishes in 2010 and 2012. Basha beat Corona del Sol 9-5 in 2008 and Red Mountain 5-2 in 2009. Their losses in title games were to Red Mountain in the midst of the Mountain Lions five successive titles, 5-4 in 2011 and 5-2 in 2012. The Bears won five region titles and qualified for the playoffs 11 straight seasons 2006 through 2016.
