State tennis singles and doubles preview

Seeding is complete and time to sort out boys and girls singles and doubles tennis champions in the state's three divisions for the 2016 season.

A brief look at  top-seeds, dates and locations for the two-weekend event. Early rounds are Friday April 22 and Saturday April 23 (D-I quarterfinals on Aprill 23). D-II and D-III quarterfinals are Friday April 29 with semiifinals and finals for all divisions set for Saturday April 30.

Boys tidbits: No defending champions from 2015 return. Last year's highest returning finishers are Millennium's doubles team of  Lawlor-Todd, who placed third. Miritello was part of a third-place doubles team in 2013. Pham and Koester were singles quarterfinalists last year while Yeager, Frampton and Brown competed in doubles and reached the quarterfinals. Stofflet will try and give Horizon its second consecutive singles champ. Last year the title went to teammate Jarod Hing. Auh and Victor, playing with different doubles partners this year, were doubles champs in 2014. Perisic nabbed fourth place i singles in 2014. Kimbrill took fourth in singles in 2014. Girls tidbits: Returning champs are Mountain View's sophomore doubles team -- Lamoreaux-Lamoreaux. If seeding plays out, the title match would feature last year's runners-up -- Chaparral's Salaway-Koester -- in a rematch. In singles, four of the top eight seeds are freshman (1,2, 5 and 6). Salaway was singles runner-up in 2014. Weihs owns a third-place finish in doubles from 2013 and thrid-place finish in singles in 2014. Moore finished third in singles last year. Deokar, playing doubles this year, was a singles quarterfinalist last year as ws Millennium's Lawlor. Deokar was a third-place doubles finisher in 2014. Xavier's James, part of this year's5th-seeded doubles team, was on last year's third-place doubles team. Horizon's Kiana Clarke and Meredith Kenny were quarterfinalists in doubles last year. Arcadia's Reed was a doubles quarterfinalist last year in the D-II state tourney.

Boys tidbits: Hassey is the defending champ state champ in singles. He defeated Yash in last year's semifinals with Yash finishing third. Parikh was singles champ in 2014 and took third in 2013. Michael Lee was singles runner-up last season and was singles champ in 2013. Ton advanced to the quarterfinals competing in doubles last year.  James played singles last year and exited in the quarterfinals. Pusch Ridge's Bristol placed third in singles in 2014. Girls tidbits: Cooke has switched to singles this year and was a fourth-place finisher with Heid in doubles in 2015. Pesquiera also competed in doubles last year and earned a third-place finish with her partner.Chakraborty advanced to the quarterfinals last year in singles.Watson teamed up with a multi-decorated champion Kirtana Bhat last year to win doubles. She'll look for a repeat with Zadro sharing the court..
