MaxPreps/NFCA Players of the Week for March 7-March 13, 2016

LOUISVILLE, Ky.– Hertford County's (N.C.) Emily Merritt, Spring (Texas) James, Legacy's (Nev.) have been named MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week for contests played March 7 through March 13.

South Region – Emily Merritt (Hertford County – Ahoskie, N.C.)
Helping her squad in the circle and at the plate, Merritt was 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 16 innings, while hitting .364 with seven RBI and six runs scored. Merritt limited her opponents to a .098 batting average and surrendered just five hits and two unearned runs in her three starts. She tossed a three-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts and zero walks Northhampton-West. The sophomore also twirled a pair of one-hitters against Rocky Mount and Northwestern-West (G2), allowing an unearned run in each game. She struck out 11 versus Rocky Mount and 10 more against Hurricanes. Offensivley, Merritt top game at the plate was a 2-for-3 outing with a home run and five RBI against Rocky Mount.

South Central Region – Aziah James (Spring High School – Texas)
James, a sophomore, hit .714 (5-for-7) with a double, triple, four RBI and seven runs to help the Lions post a pair of victories last week. She started the week 2-for-2 with a double, triple and three RBI versus Klein Forest. James followed up with a 3-for-5 outing against Klein in which shot tripled and scored foru tuns. In addition, she drew two walks and recorded a .778 on base percentage.

West Region – Amanda Sink (Legacy High School – North Las Vegas, Nev.)
Freshman Amanda Sink had a monstrous first week of the season in the circle and at the plate for the Longhorns. Appearing in seven contests, Sink went 6-0 with a 1.46 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 24 innings of work. She twirled a five-hit complete game in a 3-1 victory over Boulder City, striking out 17 and walking just one batter. For the week, she recorded five scoreless appearances and four without allowing at hit. At the plate, Sink clocked in with a .762 batting average (16-21), four doubles, a triple, two long balls, 16 RBI and 10 runs scored. Of her four multi-hit games, Sink went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, five RBI and four runs versus Sunrise AHS. She knocked in five against Cathedral city and posted three-hit, two-RBI games against Mountain View Christian and Faith Lutheran.

The MaxPreps/NFCA High School Players of the Week are announced on NFCA.org every Monday during the spring season, with one representative chosen from each of five separate high school regions. During the fall campaign, just a single player will be selected representing all participating regions.
