MaxPreps/NFCA Players of the Week for February 22-28, 2016

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Oak Grove's (La.) Sarah Dugan, Cypress Woods' (Cypress, Texas) Jordan Llinas and Saintiago's (Garden Grove, Calif.) have been named the first MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week for the 2016 spring season. The trio helped their respective programs to eight victories during the week of Feb. 22-28.
South Region – Sarah Dugan (Oak Grove High School – Oak Grove, La.)
Dugan, a senior third baseman and pitcher, registered a perfect first week at the plate and helped Oak Grove to a 4-0 start. She went 10-for-10 and reached base safely in 13 plate appearance with three doubles, a triple, two home runs, 17 RBI and 10 runs scored. With her six extra-base hits, Dugan slugged a monstrous 2.100 and posted a 3.100 OPS. She capped off the week with her biggest outing, going 4-for-4 with a double, two dingers, seven RBI and four runs in a 17-6 triumph over St. Joseph's-Plaucheville. In each contest against Downsville and LaSalle, Dugan registered two hits, a double and three RBI. She also scored a total of five times in those two victories. A captain for the Tigers, Dugan opened her senior season with two hits, a triple, four RBI and two runs versus Sicily Island.
South Central Region – Jordan Llinas (Cypress Woods High School – Cypress, Texas)
Llinas had a brilliant week in the circle, twirling a pair of complete-game shutouts against a pair district rivals and amassing 31 strikeouts. The senior hurler surrendered just five hits and held the opposition to a .102 batting average in 14 innings of work. She opened with a two-hitter in a 2-0 triumph over Cypress Falls. Nearly unhittable, Llinas fanned 18 of the 26 batters she faced and issued two walks. Three days later, she helped the Wildcats to a 3-0 win over Cypress Creek with a three-hitter and 13 more strikeouts. In addition, she contributed to the offense, going 4-for-7 at the plate with a pair doubles and triple.
West Region – Aurora Adams (Santiago High School – Garden Grove, Calif.)
Adams, a junior third baseman and utility player, was nearly perfect at the plate in helping the Cavaliers to a doubleheader sweep in their opening games of 2016. Adams did have a perfect start to the season (5-for-5) as she hit for the cycle with a double, triple, home run, six RBI and four runs scored in a 13-3 victory against Century High School. In the second game of the day against Magnolia High School, she finished 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored in 7-5 win.

To nominate a player for the award, the coach must enter his or her athlete's game stats into MaxPreps.com by Sunday evening to be eligible for that week's award.
The MaxPreps/NFCA High School Players of the Week are announced on NFCA.org every Monday during the spring season, with one representative chosen from each of five separate high school regions. During the fall campaign, just a single player will be selected representing all participating regions.
