Nighthawk Invitational

Sept. 12: OMNI Tucson National Catalina Course (Par 73)

Tucson Sahuaro senior Kathryn Ottman played almost flawless golf on Saturday to capture the individual championship of the Ironwood Ridge Nighthawk Invitational held at the OMNI Tucson National.

Ottman shot a 1-over 74 to defeat a trio of Phoenix Xavier golfers by two strokes. Ottman recorded a bogey on holes two and 12 but a birdie on 18 solidified her victory.

"Every shot I played on the golf course was smooth and solid," Ottman explained.

"I felt confident and played great. My approach shot into 18 was 185 yards with the wind in my face. I hit my hybrid and had a 15-foot putt for birdie and I made it."

Emily Mahar, Eve Worden and Mikayla Fitzpatrick led Xavier to multiple Division I state championships while Ottman led the Cougars to a D-II title in 2013.

Xavier has won 32 state championships including the last four in a row and the Gators repeat as the Nighthawk Invitational team champions by ten strokes over Sahuaro. Tucson Salpointe took third.

"Playing against Xavier places a different mind set and they are a great competitor to have in the field. Winning this event prepares me for college competition," Ottman added.
