MaxPreps/NFCA Players of the Week for March 23, 2015

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For the first time this season, all five regions were represented as Danielle Smith of Model Secondary School for the Deaf (Washington, District of Columbia), Gabbi Jenkins of Floyd Central (Floyds Knobs, Ind.), Brentley Armstrong of Straughn (Andalusia, Ala.), Montana Fouts of East Carter (Grayson, Ky.) and Delaney Marshall of Prescott (Prescott, Ariz.) were named the MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week, announced on Monday for games played March 23-29.
East
Smith, a sophomore utility pitcher, was a perfect 5-for-5 with three doubles and four runs scored in the Eagles' season-opener versus Riverdale Baptist. She was efficient from the leadoff spot, scoring four of the five times she reached base. In addition, Smith swiped four bases, recorded a 1.600 on base percentage and a 2.600 OPS.
North
Jenkins got her junior season off to a hot start in helping the Highlanders open with six victories to begin the 2015 campaign. Recording a hit in every game, she batted .591 (13-for-22) with a double, 12 RBI and seven runs scored. Jenkins posted five multi-hit and four multi-RBI games, recording three hits against Stewarts Creek (3-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R) and Summit. She knocked in three runs versus Riverdale, Bolton and Scott County, respectively, and scored twice against Stewarts Creek and Bolton (2-for-4, 3 RBI, 2 R)
South
Armstrong keyed her Tigers to a 3-0 week. The junior batted .600 (6-for-10) with a home run, seven RBI, seven runs scored and two stolen bases. She was 2-for-4 with her first long ball of the season, four RBI and two runs scored versus Ashford and went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI against New Brockton. Armstrong closed out the week by going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI against Andalusia. Her runs scored, hits and RBI were all season bests.
South Central
Fouts was instrumental in East Carter's 5-1 opening week as she twirled three complete-game shutouts and batted .444 (8-for-18) with 11 RBI for the Raiders. In the circle, the freshman surrendered just five hits, held her opponents to a 0.72 batting average, struck out 35 and walked five in 21 innings of work. In her first start of the season, Fouts allowed just two hits, struck out nine and did not walk a batter in a 2-0 triumph versus Greenup County. In her second two-hit shutout of the week, she struck out 16, and walked three against Magoffin County. Fouts wrapped up her fantastic week with a one-hit, 10-strikeout performance in a 6-0 win over Russell. Her biggest offensive contribution came against West Carter in which she was 4-for-4 with two doubles, six RBI and two runs scored. She also hit a three-run home run in a 6-0 win over Russell.
West
Marshall, a sophomore infielder, was a perfect 10-for-10 at the plate with a triple, two home runs, 11 RBI and five runs scored for the Badgers last week. She opened the week with a season-best 4-for-4 showing with a triple, four RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases against Goldwater. She continued two days later by going 3-for-3 with a home run and knocking in all three runs in a 3-1 triumph over Boulder Creek. Marshall wrapped up the week with another 3-for-3 performance with a long ball, four RBI and two runs scored versus Aqua Fria. Her two four-RBI contests and three runs scored were season highs.
