MaxPreps/NFCA Players of the Week for March 9, 2015

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore Mikaelyn Settles of Harmony (Big Sandy, Texas), senior middle infielder Jessica England of Stoneman Douglas (Parkland, Fla.) and senior infielder Mallory Belknap of Xavier College Prep (Phoenix, Ariz.) have been selected as the MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week for games played March 9-15.
South Central
Settles clubbed her way to a big week at the plate and also contributed in the circle for the Eagles. The Big Sandy, Texas native batted .800 (8-10) and slugged 1.800 with two doubles, a triple, two home runs, 11 RBI and nine runs scored to help her squad go 3-0 and improve to 6-3. She opened the week going 4-for-4 with two doubles, a long ball, three RBI and three runs scored in a 13-2 victory over Winnsboro. She followed that with a double and five RBI with three runs scored versus Grand Saline and ended her weekend with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored against Quitman. In the circle, Settles earned three wins, highlighted by a five-inning, nine-strikeout no-hitter versus Grand Saline. On the week, she allowed just two hits and two runs with 19 strikeouts in 13 innings of work.
South
England collected nine hits in 11 at bats and along with four walks owned a .867 on base percentage in a 4-0 week for the Eagles. Batting .818, England tripled, knocked in two scored, seven times and recorded three multiple-hit games, including 3-for-3 efforts against Coral Glades and Southwest. Against Glades, she scored three times, tripled and knocked in a run. She added two runs versus Monarch and also scored against Southwest and Florida Christian.
West
Belknap batted .667 (14-21) with two doubles, four RBI and 11 runs scored as her Gators went 6-1 last week. The senior captain recorded a hit in every contest with six multi-hit games and also scored in six of seven contests. Belk collected a week-best three hits in the opener against Red Mountain HS and went on to score two runs in five of her last six games. Of her multi-hit performances, Belk doubled against Red Mountain and Verrado, a game in which she knocked in three runs as well. For the week, she registered .750 on base and .762 slugging percentages, stole two bases and was perfect defensively in 17 chances.
