D-IV QUARTERFINALS: Seton Catholic & Sahuarita unbeaten

November 13, 2014 by Andy Morales, AZPreps365

No. 8 Winslow (8-3) at No. 1 Seton Catholic Prep (11-0)

The Bulldogs have three big losses on their record this year but they put it all together in time to defeat No. 9 Parker 20-13 in the first round of the Division IV playoffs. Winslow has two 800-yard rushers in C.J Chacon and Darrien Brown and they will need to share the ball even more to have a chance at Seton Catholic.

The Sentinels have been playing with a chip on their shoulder since getting upset in the semifinal round last year. The have outscored their last eight opponents by a combined score of 467-7 including a 70-0 win over No. 16 Page in the first Round.

QB Zach Wade has 2,171 yards passing and Antonio Campanella has 1,459 yards rushing.

No. 5 Coolidge (10-1) at No. 4 Snowflake (10-1)

The Bears have quietly built an impressive record with junior Charles McCarty leading the team 1,723 all purpose yards. They defeated No. 12 Florence 41-35 in the first round to get a shot at Snowflake.

Snowflake gave Seton Catholic a close game (23-14) earlier in the year. That's understandable with the legendary Ron Tenney coaching the Lobos. Snowflake has two 1,000 rushers in Trevor McCray and Drew Schneider. They beat San Tan Valley Combs 54-12 in the first round.

No. 6 Estrella Foothills (8-3) at No. 3 River Valley (10-1)

Estrella Foothills will get a rematch with River Valley after defeating No. 11 Show Low 10-13 in the first round. The Wolves lost to River Valley 42-40 in October. They will need Joe Logan (1,281 yards rushing) to lead their attack after he was limited in the first game.

The Dust Devils defeated No. 14 Fountain Hills 60-14 in the first round. Senior Brandon Long has 1,772 yards rushing this year with 32 TDs. His best game came against Estrella Foothills with 285 yards rushing and four TDs.

No. 7 Safford (9-2) at No. 2 Sahuarita (11-0)

Safford lost to Sahuarita 49-27 earlier in the year but have reeled off six in a row to get another shot at the Mustangs. They defeated No. 10 Sahuarita Walden Grove 49-14 in the first round.  Senior Tyler Shurtz leads the Bulldogs with 1,043 yards passing and 964 yards rushing.

Sahuarita is undefeated and two of those wins came against defending state champion No. 15 Lakeside Blue Ridge. The Mustangs defeated Blue Ridge in the first game of the season and then again in the first round 42-0.

Calvin Jenkins has 1,527 yards passing and 721 yards rushing. Geovan Neuser has 1,087 yards rushing.
