Two sources confirmed Wednesday that former Desert Mountain baseball coach Bryan Rice has been offered the vacant baseball coaching post at Desert Ridge.
Rice, who was on staff at Desert Mountain when the school opened in 1995, was part of the baseball coaching staff there for 17 years. Rice was head coach of the Wolves for 12 years helping guide them to runner-up finishes in 2007 and 2010 and to semifinal berths four other seasons. Desert Mountain has been a perennial title contender in baseball for nearly two decades. Desert Mountain won its first ever baseball state title last month by beating Chaparral in extra innings.
Rice would take over for Pat Herrera, who resigned late last month and has since been hired as head coach at Skyline High School. Sources said Rice was offered the job Wednesday, but won't officially have it until board and district approval is granted in the coming week.
