Fitzgerald, Konkle, Prince, Gross and Robben Selected as MaxPreps/NFCA National H.S. Players of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For their outstanding performances during games occurring over May 20-26, Jaime Fitzgerald of Morgan (Clinton, Conn.) High School, Mallori Konkle of Homer (Homer, Mich.) High School, Makenzie Prince of Smyrna (Smyrna, Tenn.) High School, Michaela Gross of Estill County (Irvine, Ky.) High School and Baylee Robben of Vintage (Napa, Calif.) High School have been selected as the MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week.

EAST REGION: A junior third baseman for the Huskies, Fitzgerald batted .545 (12-for-22) this past week with six runs scored, six stolen bases, a double and two RBIs. Perhaps her finest performance came during a 13-0 rout of Cromwell (Conn.) as she went a perfect 4-for-4 at the dish with a two-bagger, two runs tallied and a pair of RBIs. For the season Fitzgerald is hitting a robust .447 overall with 26 runs scored, four doubles, two triples, a HR and 16 RBIs.

NORTH REGION: A senior center fielder for the Trojans, Konkle hit an impressive .696 overall (16-for-23) with nine runs scored, seven steals and seven RBIs. Including among her week's performances was a trio of four-hit efforts during match-ups against Quincy (Mich.), Grass Lake (Mich.) and Bath (Mich.). On the season she's hitting .528 overall with 43 runs scored and 22 RBIs.

SOUTH REGION: A junior pitcher for the Bulldogs, Prince recorded a perfect 4-0 mark in the circle with a 0.23 ERA and 46 strikeouts over 31 innings of work while also contributing a HR and two RBIs at the dish. She struck out 13 in both a 2-0 (10 inn.) decision over Maryville (Tenn.) and a 1-0 triumph over Dickson County (Tenn.) and 12 during a 4-1 win against Soddy Daisy (Tenn.). For the year Prince possesses a 36-6 overall record with a staggering 368 K's over 245.1 frames of effort.

SOUTH CENTRAL REGION: A junior pitcher for the Engineers, Gross was 2-0 last week with a 0.00 ERA, a perfect game, a pair of complete game shutouts and 22 strikeouts over just 13 innings of work. She struck out 14 during a 1-0 victory over Powell County (Ky.) but was at her best in a 14-0 (5 inn.) rout of Owsley County (Ky.) by tossing a perfect game with eight K's. For the year she is 13-10 overall with a 2.91 ERA and 141 strikeouts in 142 innings while also batting .366 with five doubles and 15 RBIs.

WEST REGION: A sophomore for the Crushers, Robben helped power Vintage H.S. to a perfect 5-0 week by hitting .500 (9-for-18) with nine runs scored, two doubles, three HR's and an incredible 17 RBIs. Included among her efforts was a trio of four-RBI performances in a victory over Elk Grove (Calif.) and two triumphs against Pleasant Grove (Calif.). She's currently hitting .449 for the year with 13 doubles, five HR's and 57 RBIs.

To nominate a player for the award, the coach must enter his or her athlete's game stats into MaxPreps.com by Sunday evening to be eligible for that week's award.

The MaxPreps/NFCA High School Players of the Week will be announced on NFCA.org every Monday during the spring season, with one representative chosen from each of five separate high school regions. During the fall campaign, just a single player will be selected representing all participating regions.
