Holly McKinnon, Samantha Show and Kelsey Smith Tabbed as Max Preps/NFCA National H.S. Players of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After contributing for their squads at both the plate and from the circle, Holly McKinnon (North Marion (Citra, Fla.) High School), Samantha Show (Pearland (Pearland, Texas) High School) and Kelsey Smith (Empire (Tucson, Ariz.) High School) have been selected as the MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week for games occurring over February 18-25.
SOUTH REGION: McKinnon was 3-0 from the circle for the Colts with a 0.00 ERA and didn't allow a single hit over 17 innings of work while striking out 32 batters. At the plate she proved equally effective, hitting .600 (6-for-10) with a pair of doubles, a HR and nine RBIs. The senior pitcher/utility player registered a perfect game with 16 strikeouts during a 4-0 triumph over Palatka North Marion (FL) and followed that up with a no-hitter in a 12-0 (6 inn.) victory over Lake Weir (FL). During the latter contest, McKinnon also went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, HR and six RBIs. She's now 6-0 on the year with a 0.00 ERA and 58 strikeouts over 35 innings of effort, while allowing just five hits thus far in 2013.
SOUTH CENTRAL REGION: A sophomore pitcher/third baseman/first baseman, Show hit 7-for-19 (.368) with six runs scored, a double, five HR's and 15 RBIs, while also posting a 3-0 record from the circle with 41 strikeouts over 19 innings of work and allowing just five total hits to the opposition. She struck out 16 and 15 hitters during wins over Sterling (TX) and Angleton (TX), respectively, and was 3-for-3 at the dish with two HR's and five RBI in a 7-0 win over Deer Park (TX). Now 8-0 on the season with a 0.15 ERA, Show has allowed just a single tally over 45.1 frames to go along with 77 strikeouts.
WEST REGION: In Empire's seven season-opening match-ups, junior pitcher/third baseman Smith led the way by hitting .778 (14-for-18) with nine runs scored, six doubles, four HR's and 17 RBIs, while also going 2-1 from the circle with 14 strikeouts over 11 innings of effort. She registered at least one hit in all seven contests during the week with her best game coming during a 10-1 (6 inn.) rout of Boulder Creek (AZ), going 3-for-3 with three tallies, a doubles, two HR's and four RBIs.
