Basha boys basketball coach John Burns has resigned after just one season, Basha principal Ken James said on Thursday,  just a few days after Chandler High's boys coach Mike Ellsworth did the same.

Burns was hired last spring after spending the prior two seasons at Mesquite where he compiled a 27-26 record. Basha was 9-18 this season, a tough year for Burns with a couple key players transferring out. James said Burns is moving to Missouri for family reasons. Burns met with his team Thursday morning to inform them of his resignation.

"Family comes first and there are some personal and family issues he needs to be there for," James said. "I'd have liked to see it play out here for him. I thought he did a good job given all he had to deal with. It was a difficult year."

Ellsworth, who will continue to teach at Chandler High, piloted the Wolves the past nine seasons. He was head coach at Trevor Browne for 14 years before starting as head man at Chandler iin 2004-2005. Chandler's best season under Ellsworth was the 2008-2009 campaign with a 19-12 mark. Chandler was 95-154 overall under Ellsworth and posted a 15-12 mark this season. Only two of Ellsworth's seasons were .500 or better.

Another Chandler high school, Perry, is looking for a new girls basketball coach. The school's only varsity girls basketball coach to date, Richard Trujillo, has resigned after five seasons. Trujillo's teams were 72-67 in his tenure with the most successful seasons his first three years (54-32). Perry made the playoffs in 2009, 2010 and 2011, advancing to the quarterfinals twice competing in 4A-II and 5A-II. The last two seasons the Pumas were 10-17 and 8-18 competing in Division I and did not qualify for state.
