Brophy Prep set a new standard this week by winning the Division I state championship for the 12th time in program history. The victory, cemented Thursday at Aguila Golf Course, put the Broncos one championship ahead of Arcadia and Thatcher. Hamilton and Snowflake are next with 10 each.

Brophy led Catalina Foothills by one stroke after the first round on Wednesday but the Broncos went 16-under-par on Thursday to beat the Falcons 554 to 561. Perry took third with an 11 under 565.

Brophy senior Asher Nelson held off Hamilton senior Owen Greenough and Catalina Foothills senior Zachary Schaefer by one stroke to win the individual title. Nelson recorded a birdie on the 17th hole to provide slim lead and then Greenough and Schaefer rimmed long birdie attempts on their final holes to avoid a playoff scenario.

Nelson is headed to Oklahoma State, Greenough, the 2025 state champion, is headed to Pepperdine and Schaefer to New Mexico State. Nelson tied for second place last year and Schaefer took second place as a sophomore.

Brophy head coach Jon Shores earned his sixth title. Former Snowflake head coach Steve Schneider had 10, former Hamilton head coach Steve Kanner had nine, former Thatcher head coach Dennis Martin had eight, former Valley Christina head coach Scott Longanecker had seven and former Canyon del Oro head coach John Ruiz had six.
