COTTONWOOD — With rainclouds still hovering overhead, Kambra Hahn scored two touchdowns and Mingus turned up the heat defensively in a 19-7 win over Prescott on Monday night.

It is the third straight win for the Marauders, who celebrated their first victory over the Badgers in program history.

In fact, Monday night’s 19 points by coach Dave Moncibaez’ group were the first his club ever scored against their Mingus-Mountain rival.

Mingus had previously lost 24-0 (2024) and 19-0 in 2025. Both programs are operating in their third year of play.

 “Super proud of the girls for showing up today. We could have gone flat a bit after that [early] interception. But since that interception happened, everyone defensively, offensively, rose to the occasion,” Moncibaez said.

Both Prescott and Mingus were in the 4A state semifinals a season ago, with the Maruders losing to Eastmark (14-10) and the Badgers losing to eventual state champ Salpointe Catholic, 31-18.

HOW THEY SCORED

Mingus (4-1, 1-1 4A Grand Canyon) began the game on defense, but an unfortunate misstep by Prescott quarterback Rylee Hart cost the Badgers a 2-0 lead. After the ball was snapped near their own goal line, it went right through her hands and in the back of the end zone.

Prescott would get the ball right back after Mingus quarterback Kenna Cook through an interception into the hands of a waiting Halle Teralak-Foster.

The Badgers responded by driving down the field as Hart found Teralak-Foster for a 2-yard touchdown pass to take a 7-2 lead with 1:43 left to play in the first quarter.

But like Moncibaez suggested, from that point on it was all Mingus.

With 4:38 to play in the second quarter, Hahn crossed the goal line on a 15-yard touchdown run to give Mingus a 9-7 lead, then scored again on a 10-yard sprint, beating her defender to the corner pylon to put the Marauders up 16-7 in the third quarter.

“Kambra is mostly a blocker, but we have some plays where we slip her the ball and she runs. Everyone is thrown one way and she’s running the other. We set that up. She’s a hard runner and she raced to the pylon and won,” Moncibaez said.

Karstyn Richardson kicked a 25-yard field goal with 3:05 to play, sealing the deal for her team with a 19-7 win.

“It feels amazing to come out here and protect our home field. I’m proud of each one of our players, especially our quarterback Kenna Cook. We did amazing today,” said Hahn, who added the Marauders are only getting started after losing a state semifinal game a season ago.

“I expect to come on this field and every other field and win. I’m expecting the exact same the rest of the season,” Hahn said.

Moncibaez said this group has high expectations.

“Our expectation is to get back there and punch a ticket,” he said.

Power point rankings for the 4A conference are scheduled to be released Oct. 8 at noon, and both of these clubs will likely be Top 10 teams.

Mingus is in the middle of a three games in four nights stretch, the second coming Tuesday with a road trip to Peoria. Then on Thursday, they host Westview. Both games are slated to start at 6 p.m.

Prescott (3-2, 0-1 4A Grand Canyon) has a week to think about things as they head to Dysart on Oct. 5. Official start set for 6 p.m.
