Cholla beat Flowing Wells 242 to 249 Wednesday at the Silverbell Golf Course in Tucson. Pueblo did not score as a team but Warrior senior Nicholas Mathews shot a 5-over-par 40 and his senior teammate Adrian Romero shot 45 to take the top two spots in the field.

Flowing Wells, under new head coach Jim Purdy, is reviving the Flowing Wells Tournament of Champions to be held on Aug. 28-29 at Silverbell. The field for the girls includes Salpointe Catholic, Sahuarita, Flowing Wells, Marana, Tucson and Cienega and the field the boys consists of Buena, Salpointe, Walden Grove, Sahuarita, Douglas, Flowing Wells, Central, Ironwood Ridge, Tucson, Cienega and Canyon del Oro.

This is the only invitational scheduled for Southern Arizona this fall. The four state championship tournaments return to the Aguila Golf Course in Laveen Village in late October and early November. The top 12 ranked teams will qualify for state and those 12 teams will be joined by the top 18 golfers not attached to a qualifying team.

Brophy Prep won the boys Division I team championship last year over Hamilton, Notre Dame Prep won the boys D-II championship over Desert Mountain, Xavier Prep won the girls D-I title over Casteel and Chaparral won the girls D-II title over Canyon del Oro,

Hamilton senior Owen Greenough won the D-I championship last fall, former Notre Dame Prep standout Landon Ashcraft won the D-II individual medal, Xavier standout Alexis Lamadrid won the D-I championship and former Mica Mountain standout Tyla Greenwood won the D-II title.
