The recruiting process is over for Jake Rogers, but the work isn’t.

Fresh off his commitment to Princeton, the Basha quarterback has spent the offseason strengthening his connection with a talented group of playmakers, including Texas commit Noah Roberts, Pittsburgh commit Jaden Baldwin and Makai Nelson, who holds 11 Division I offers. That chemistry was on full display Saturday evening as Rogers led the Bears to the Just Chilly’s Flight Club 7-on-7 championship at Basha High School.

Rogers was at his best in the 38-14 championship victory over McClintock, throwing five touchdowns while repeatedly hitting his receivers over the top of the defense.

“It’s just a lot of fun coming out here competing with the guys,” Rogers said. “Getting better every play, every snap. Learning the playbook and having a lot of fun.”

On Basha’s first offensive snap, Rogers lofted a 40-yard bomb to Nelson for a touchdown.

One possession later, he connected with Baldwin for another one-play score. Baldwin was named Co-MVP of the tournament alongside Roberts, who also found the end zone in the championship.

“We go out and throw quite a bit,” Rogers said. “Those dudes are the fastest in the state. I throw it out there, they’re going to go get it.”

Basha’s roster features more than 22 players with Division I offers, headlined by the offensive playmakers, Arizona State commit Jake Hildebrand and 4-star DaJohn Yarborough who anchor the group up front. Basha also won the event's Big Man Challenge, marking the second straight year Basha won both titles.

The combination of Basha’s passing attack and Roberts running behind that offensive line gives the Bears one of the state’s most dangerous offenses entering the season.

As Basha prepares for another title run, Rogers announced his commitment to Princeton on Friday. Rogers held offers from Brown, Colgate, Eastern Washington, and Penn alongside his Princeton offer, but his decision came down to his relationship with the coaching staff.

“They were the first ones to watch me throw in January, first ones to jump on me and they’ve really believed in me ever since,” Rogers said. “I went out there and it just felt like home.”

Basha returns many key members from last year’s Open Division state championship team, which defeated Chandler 34-7.

Rogers threw for 304 yards and scored two total touchdowns in the win.

The teams will open the season against each other Aug. 29.

“It’s super exciting, obviously we played them in the championship last year,” Rogers said. “We’ve just gotta show them that this is how we’re coming this year, we expect to be back in the same spot.”

Rogers took over during Basha’s playoff run last season after Brodie Vehrs, now at Oklahoma State, went down with an injury.

With his recruitment behind him, Rogers can devote his full attention to his senior season as he enters 2026 as the leader of one of the nation’s most talented rosters. Expectations remain high for the defending Open Division champions, but Rogers said the team’s focus has remained on improving each day.

Basha also defeated Skyline 38-0, Marana 35-21, Cactus Shadows 28-27 and Desert View 34-24 Saturday before its championship win over McClintock.
