Davis leads Bremerton over Millennium with 39 points at Section 7

Washington Bremerton held off Millennium, 70-63, Friday evening at Arizona Athletic Grounds in a Section 7 game between two top West Coast teams.
‘27 five-star guard Jalen Davis—the No. 1 player in Washington—led the way for Bremerton, outscoring Millennium 33-25 during a stretch in the first half.
Millennium entered No. 1 overall in MaxPreps' “Way Too Early 2026-2027 rankings,” and is led by ‘27 No. 1 overall recruit Adan Diggs, who reclassified up last month. While much of the attention entering the game centered on Diggs, Davis delivered the standout performance with 39 points.
“I didn’t know (Millennium) was No. 1,” Davis said. “For me, I’m a competitor so I just want to come out and win, make the right play, play-by-play.”
With nearly 20 Division I scouts watching the game, Davis was guarded primarily by Diggs during the first half.
Whether it was getting to the rim, drawing fouls to get to the free throw line or launching from beyond the three-point arc, Davis showcased his elite scoring ability.
While Millennium came up short in its first Section 7 game, head coach Rich Thornton was pleased to see the team improve defensively in the second half, limiting Davis to just six points. Diggs was active defensively, getting deflections and steals throughout the second half, while the team’s defensive energy and intensity amped up, according to Thornton.
Diggs, who finished with 24 points, was competing in Section 7 just four days after leading Team USA to a silver medal in the FIBA U-18 AmeriCup. He averaged 10.4 points and 6.6 rebounds over five games.
“He (Diggs) did as much as he could,” Thornton said. “You could tell his legs were tired from USA Basketball, and he’s been gone for almost a month on the grind. But he’s special. We’ve got a couple new pieces that we’ve got to get some chemistry with. We’ll be fine.”
Millennium is also learning how to play without Cameron Holmes, who signed with Arizona, leaving it without its top scorer and leader from a season ago.
“It’s hard to replace a guy like Cameron Holmes,” Thornton said. “He did a little of everything and not only that he was our senior leader. We’ll have to replace him collectively, not just one person.”
It will likely be on the shoulders of Diggs, as well as 3-star forward Trey McKinney—who also returns from last year— alongside 3-star Willow Canyon transfer guard Maurice Carter II, who made his debut Friday.
McKinney scored all 17 of his points in Millennium’s second-half rally after the Tigers trailed 45-26 at halftime, while Carter II added eight points in his first game as a Tiger.
“(Carter II) is tough, strong, quick, and brings a lot of energy,” Thornton said. "It's always hard jumping on a new team, not only for the new kids, but also for the guys that were here before. It takes time to build chemistry, so it's going to take some time, but we’ll get there.”
The 6-foot-1 Carter II, a ‘28 guard, currently holds offers from California, LSU, Jackson State, Nevada, High Point and Fresno State.
Millennium trimmed the deficit to seven with 1:37 remaining, but Bremerton held on for a 70-63 victory.
Millennium will look to respond Saturday in its matchup against Deer Valley at 1 p.m. on Court 1. Deer Valley lost in its first game against Notre Dame California 76-59.
Another high-level Arizona versus Washington matchup took place simultaneously on Friday, with Sunnyslope taking on Washington Rainier Beach. Rainier Beach jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, beating Sunnyslope 77-62.
On Saturday, Sunnyslope will face off against Utah Corner Canyon on Saturday at 8 a.m. on Court 6.
