Led by 4x400 relay crown, Canyon View girls track takes second overall at state

After winning the Division II State Championship a week prior, the Canyon View girls track and field wrapped up their season by capturing a second-place team finish at the Arizona State Meet at Mesa Community College.
The Jaguars compiled 52 total points, finishing just four points shy of North Canyon. The runner-up finish marks another step forward for the program, which had finished third at the State Meet each of the last two years.
Canyon View’s performance was highlighted by a win in the final event of the competition, the 4x400-meter relay. The Jaguars captured first place with a time of 3:43.86. The Jaguars also picked up relay points in the 4x800-meter relay with a second place finish in 9:14.64, and added a fifth-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 47.29 seconds.
Individually, Northern Arizona University-bound senior Ryane Ast clocked a time of 54.67 seconds to take third place in the 400-meter dash. Sophomore Peyton-Rae Isaac followed closely behind in sixth place in the same event with a time of 55.29 seconds.
Canyon View also saw strong performances across the field events, led by Rylee Fields' two top-five finishes. Fields finished third in the discus with a toss of 124 feet, 11 inches, and claimed fifth in the shot put with a mark of 38 feet, 4 inches. Taelyn Janssen added to the throws tally, placing seventh in the javelin with a distance of 123 feet.
In the jumps, senior Harmony Stewart wrapped up her high school career by placing third in the triple jump with a leap of 37 feet, 7 inches. Fellow senior Syah Cuff finished sixth in the long jump with a mark of 17 feet, 9 inches.
