Amaia and Maliyah McGinty added another chapter to their family’s tennis legacy, capturing the Division I girls doubles state championship with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Desert Mountain's Kaley Gravel and Hartleigh Kelly.

The victory continues a tradition of success for the McGinty family. Older sister Zaria won the Division II singles state championship in 2023. She also reached the Division II state final in 2024 before falling to Notre Dame Prep’s Georgia Cranford. After taking a year off following graduation, Zaria is now headed to Colorado State University to continue her tennis career.

"All of us have our better days, but she normally beats me," Maliyah said of her sibling rivalry with older sister Zaria.

The sisters delivered a dominant run through the bracket this year, not dropping a game in the opening two rounds with 6-0, 6-0 wins over Gila Ridge and Casteel opponents. They continued their strong play in the quarterfinals with a win over Xavier Prep’s Leighton Champagne and Victoria Sott, then advanced past Boulder Creek’s Alina Barney and Samantha Spiteri 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals.

In the championship match, Amaia and Maliyah controlled play against Gravel and Kelly, securing the title in straight sets.

"It was a really good experience because we are sisters and we just have a bond already so it was really nice to play with each other, " Amaia said.

The McGintys’ title adds to a strong history at Canyon View, where cousins Madeline Monroy and Kambra Roles won the Division II doubles state championship in 2021.

With their dominant postseason run, Amaia and Maliyah McGinty cemented themselves as the latest champions in a growing family tradition of excellence on the court.
