5A: No. 4 Canyon del Oro over No. 5 Centennial 7-0

No. 4 Canyon del Oro beat No. 5 Centennial 7-0 on Wednesday to advance to 5A Conference Round 3 action set for Saturday and 11 a.m. The Dorados will host No. 9 Willow Canyon after the Wildcats beat No. 16 Campo Verde 11-4 to set up the match. Centennial shifts over to the elimination bracket where the Coyotes will host Campo Verde on Thursday.
Canyon del Oro (26-6) opened up the scoring on Centennial (18-11) in the bottom of the second inning after Brooklyn Benavides and Jacey Mazura singled and Kelsey Rolls walked to load the bases with no outs. Sadie Jones brought in Benavides and Emma Shaffer followed with a sacrifice fly to score Mazura.
Benavides and Mazura singled again in the bottom of the second inning and Rolls connected on a home run with two outs to give the Dorados a 5-0 lead. Rolls was intentionally walked in the fifth with one out and her courtesy runner Avery Golder took three bases on an ensuing throwing error on a ground ball from Jones to put the Dorados up 6-0.
Golder reached on an infield hit in the bottom of the sixth with two outs and Kate Roberts brought her in for the 7-0 final. Freshman pitcher Savanna Mares (18-5) collected six strikeouts in the win while spreading out three hits. Centennial had Bella Pozar (13-7) in the circle and Jaidyn Romero (1-0) threw one inning.
