Williams High School added a piece of hardware to its trophy case Saturday afternoon in a sport it had never won a state title.

The 4th-seeded Vikings tallied six runs in the sixth-inning to overturn a one-run deficit and defeat second-seeded Mogollon, 11-5, at Tempe Diablo Stadium.

Williams (23-7-1) sent 10 batters to the plate in the pivotal sixth with a trio of players driving in two runs apiece to highlight the frame. The Vikings trailed 5-4 heading to the sixth inning,

Mario Pedraza, who was selected the game's most valuable player, earned that moniker. Pedraza, a senior, pitched six innings.

"Our pitching lined up well with Marco and Jace Maebe," Williams coach Ethan Johnson said. "Nice to have two good ones."

Williams' Mario Pedraza was named the 1A title game MVP Saturday at Tempe Diablo Stadium. He struck out 71 batters and allowed only 11 earned runs in 41 innings this season. Those five runs all scored in the fourth inning as Mogollon erased a 4-0 deficit and proceeded to the final two innings with a 5-4 advantage.

Pedraza helped out offensively as well. He was 3-for-4 at the plate and knocked in four runs, including a two-run double that was part of the six-run sixth.

Teammates Cade Trimble and Josh Rue-Wilbur chipped in with a two-RBI double and two-RBI single, respectively. Trimble finished with four RBI and three hits to equal Pedraza's day at the dish.

Mogollon (21-7) was seeking the school's fifth championship in the sport, the most recent coming in 2022. Mogollon scored all its runs in the fourth inning on three hits and one of Williams four errors on the day.

Mogollon catcher Brody Porter and shortstop Quinn Tenney each had two hits to pace the offense.
