PHOENIX — Kylynn Sylvester broke a Mountain View record while leading the Toros to a crushing victory on March 30 in Mesa.

The Toros (11-7) move the Mustangs to an even 6-6 on the year on the back of their three commits.

Mountain View struck early with three runs in the first off of five straight hits. Western New Mexico commitKeelie Goodman started the scoring for the Toros with a two RBIs single.

Goodman finished the day going 2 for 4 scoring three times, with five RBIs and a three-run inside-the-park home run. Goodman led the team in RBIs as well.

Kansas commit Daniella Gloria started the game on the mound for the Toros. She struck out four out of seven batters in her two innings of work.

Before her junior and now senior year of high school, she spent her first two years playing for Dobson.

The Toros scored seven runs in the second inning off of seven hits and two errors by the Mustangs. The second was capped off with a record-breaking homerun by Utah Valley commit, Kylynn Sylvester.

Sylvester broke the Mountain View home run record with 32 in her career and is still counting.

Father Steven Sylvester said that she didn’t even know that she broke the record.

“I think about it everyday,” Sylvester said. She said  she is really cherishing the last couple of games that she has with the team before she heads away to college.

Sylvester ended the game going 4 for 4 with two doubles, one triple and a two-run home run. She was a a single away from the cycle.

The Mustangs couldn’t stop the bleeding in the third or fourth inning, giving up another six runs between the two.

It wasn’t all bad news for the Mustangs as they answered back in the bottom of the third with an RBI off the bat of second baseman Kiley Beard.

Third baseman Allison Robles finished out the game in the circle for the Toros. She finished with two innings on the rubber with two strikeouts, two hits, one walk allowed and the lone run.

Nikole Torres had a single to left field to start the fourth and was also being walked for the Mustangs.

Torres also had a very busy game at third but kept a perfect fielding percentage throughout the game.

Lilly Flick, the catcher for Dobson, had the Mustangs’ only other hit. She finished the game 1 for 2 with a double in the third inning.

Dobson head coach Leticia Silvain said the Mustangs are facing some injury right now but aren’t fazed by the loss.

“My girls are giving it everything, every day in practice,” said Silvain. “I don’t ask for a win, I ask for us to do better than the last game.”

Silvain wants her girls to trust the process and remember that nothing happens overnight.

A goal for Silvain was to improve on their record from last year and they did as they are two games over their win total. They did this with an extremely small roster.
