As we get into the depths of the spring sports season, it is a perfect time to reflect on the success that the TGS Hawks girls basketball team encountered this year. This season was one filled with laughter, ups, downs, wins, and records. The girls basketball team for the Gregory School has not seen much success until this year. Led by senior captains Lauren Horowitz and Sofia Arias-White and junior guard Zena Smith, this team ended up being one of the best teams the Gregory School has seen, with a 12-13 overall record and a 5-4 record in the region.
A big difference that made this year's team so special was the hard work on the defensive end everyone showed. Three players averaged over 3.5 steals per game this season. The effort shown on the defensive end was very clearly seen. Senior captain Lauren Horowitz said that the main factor in winning this past season was connected to a saying that their coach shared with them: "Work hard, get better, have fun." Lauren proceeded to say that everyone worked so hard at practice, which led them to improve and have fun. This team pushed through adversity and showed that they were not messing around as they made the playoffs this year, where they faced Williams and fought hard against them.
This team's bond was so tight this year, which led to a lot of memories and built on their success this year. Senior captain Sofia Arias-White's personal favorite memory was senior night. She said, "Everyone was saying nice things about each other, and everyone was crying." This moment shows the tight bond that was built between this team throughout the year. Lauren Horowitz said that the team would "create inside jokes and practice with music, which would create a fun environment." Lauren Horowitz hit a career milestone this season, snagging her 500th career rebound against San Miguel. The team cheered on the bench, and so did the families in the stands. This team was so much more than just wins, losses, and stats; they built memories and a lifetime bond and made history while doing so.
