Don’t forget the three years as a teacher in St. Louis, said Sister Lynn Winsor Monday when reached after Xavier Prep sent word that Winsor is retiring.
We won’t soon forget the three years and the unmatched 52 she served at Xavier Prep in Phoenix. It’s hard to believe, but Sister Lynn is stepping down after a renowned career as a coach and administrator.
"After prayer, reflection, and meetings with my Sisters at the Xavier Convent and our BVM (Sister of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary) leadership, it was time to pass the baton and to support Xavier from the sidelines,” said Sister Lynn, according to a press release her campus sent Monday.
Since she is officially retiring in June, there's still plenty of time to celebrate the accomplishments of Xavier’s longtime vice principal/athletic director/coach/pioneer.
The witty trailblazer was a force on and off Xavier’s campus. As Xavier's golf coach, the legend won a national record 40 team titles in 47 seasons.
As an administrator, she was a founding member of the Arizona Interscholastic Association’s Girls Equity and Sports Committee and co-founded the Arizona Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.
Sister Lynn also spearheaded the AIA’s drive to add soccer and beach volleyball for girls to the AIA's sports roster.
She was rewarded for her efforts after being inducted into the hall of fames of the National Federation of State High School Associations, National Interscholastic Administrators Association, Arizona Sports, and Arizona High School Athletic Coaches.
Sister Lynn concluded her Monday announcement by saying, “I love you all, and I will always be a part of Xavier College Prep. God Bless and Go Xavier Gators.”
