Notes from the North: Isabella Acosta leading resurgence in Ash Fork
January 7, 2026 by Brian M. Bergner Jr., AZPreps365
ASH FORK — After a 74-22 victory over Mayer on Tuesday, Ash Fork girls basketball improved to 10-0 at home this season and have quickly become the talk of 1A hoops around the state.
Most of that talk, however, is due to the brilliance of sophomore standout Isabella Acosta, who at closer to 5-feet tall than 6-feet tall, is averaging 14.7 points and 10.6 steals per game this season.
At the Yvonne Johnson Memorial Shootout in Camp Verde to end 2025, Ash Fork beat two 2A schools in Sedona and Empire before losing 43-29 to an undefeated Wickenburg club (12-0 at time, also 2A). They wrapped up the tournament 3-1 with a 52-43 win over Red Mesa.
So, with the 1A state rankings set to make their debut next week, the Spartans (14-3, 4-1 1A Central) are surely to be in the Top 5.

The Lobos (16-1, 2-0 3A East) have played only four home games all season and are led by senior Ryah Denhalter, who averages 16 points and 6.7 rebounds per game this season.
WINDOW ROCK 36, GANADO 34
FORT DEFIANCE — Leading the way with 13.2 points per game as a freshman, Tiana Edison has the Fighting Scouts from Window Rock rolling with seven straight wins after a 36-34 win over Ganado on Jan. 3.
The schedule won’t get any easier in January with two games against Monument Valley, two more against Ganado, two against Page and one against Chinle. Up next, Window Rock tips off against Page on Jan. 10, which is set for 5:30 p.m.
4A GIRLS HOOPS
PRESCOTT 74, COCONINO 22
PRESCOTT — Off to one of their best starts in years, Prescott girls basketball has come out of the gates having won 10 of their first 13 games to put the 4A girls basketball world on notice … the Badgers have arrived.
Prescott (10-3, 2-0 4A Grand Canyon) made quick work of Coconino with a 74-22 win on Tuesday night, setting up a must-watch matchup next week between the Badgers and rival Flagstaff, which is off to a similar start this season.
Senior standout Addie Prisciandaro is one of the top scorers in 4A, averaging 24.1 points per game this season.
Up next, Prescott travels to cross-town rival Bradshaw Mountain on Thursday, Jan. 8. The Bears are 6-1 overall in power point games this season. In fact, between Prescott, Bradshaw Mountain, Flagstaff and Mingus, the girls basketball teams in 4A Grand Canyon are a combined impressive 24-1 so far in power point games this winter.
Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
