Sahuaro is now 4-0 on the year after the Cougars swept through the Dick McConnell Classic played at Pima Community College this past week. The team opened up the season with an 82-64 win over Maricopa at home last Wednesday and then a 78-57 win over Sabino this past Wednesday at the Classic was followed by a 92-74 win over Maricopa on Friday and a 74-47 win over Palo Verde in the championship game on Saturday. The Titans are 3-1 to start the season.

Sahuaro senior Cisco Llamas averaged 29 points a game at the Classic including 37 points in the championship final where he drained nine three-pointers. So. Isaac Teasley added 14.

The Cougars went out to a 25-8 lead with 8:08 left in the first half and then 38-16 with 3:56 left. The Titans went on a 9-0 run to cut the lead down to 38-25 with 59.2 seconds left but Teasley nailed two 3’s to put Sahuaro up 44-25 at the half. Sahuaro led 59-31 with 8:13 left in the game and then 74-47 at the buzzer.

The Titans were led by senior Kameron Pippen with 22 points and junior Kristian White had 13.

Llamas started the season with 1,472 career points and he is now nearing 1,600 and he should break 2,000 career points sometime in late January or sooner.

Corona del Sol beat Maricopa 64-36 to claim third place.

Sahuaro travels to Tanque Verde (2-2) on Monday and Palo Verde will visit Cholla (2-1) on Tuesday.
