AIAAAA announces 2012 Hall of Fame class

Three former administrators received the state’s highest honor for their service as athletic directors.

Sheila Baize (Tucson Unified School District), Bob Schneider (Show Low High School) and Bo Whitelock (Tempe High) were inducted into the Arizona Interscholastic Athletics Administrators Association’s Hall of Fame during the association’s annual convention in Prescott. Baize, Schneider and Whitlock each received standing ovations as they were recognized during the annual AIAAA Awards Luncheon on Monday at the Prescott Resort.

Whitlock is battling an illness and couldn’t attend the ceremony. The AIAAA also announced this year’s Athletic Director of the Year winners.

Zig Kwiatkowski Rookie Step to the Plate: Janet Oitzman, Gilbert Christian.

1A Athletic Director of the Year: William Duarte, Superior.

2A: John Blabe, Antelope and Marlin Broek, Valley Christian.

3A: Nathan Richardson, Show Low.

4A: Bill White, Prescott.

5A: John Carlson, Chandler and Mike Warren, Westview.

Higley Unified Schools’ Art Wagner (AIAAA State Award of Merit), Desert Christian’s Cindy Riley (AIAAAA NFHS Citation Award Nominee) and Xavier Prep’s Sister Nancy Perlick (AIAAAA Distinguished Inside the Field of Service) also received awards.

The AIAAAA’s Carolyn Wuertz also was recognized for her service as the AIAAAA’s executive director.
