As the fall season comes to an end, it is a time of reflection for each sports team at The Gregory School. This includes swimming, soccer, chess and girls volleyball. This season has been one with ups and downs but these teams never got discouraged, kept close relationships with each other, and won games and meets.

Soccer was very exciting this season for The Gregory School. This team came into the year with high expectations but couldn't end up figuring out the little things, which led to a below average record. Regardless, this team had a lot of highlights throughout the season. Led by senior captains Amay Munjal and Finley Richardson, they won big games including an exciting 4-3 senior night win against St. Augustine. This win was driven by 2 goals from Amay Munjal and 2 goals from junior winger Marcus Swenson. Senior co-captain Finley Richardson says that "Our senior night was amazing. Being able to send off the whole team with a final win was super special." Team morale was something that this team was amazing about. Starting off with some new players, the returning players worked hard to make sure they felt welcome and comfortable on the team, as everyone gave their 100% best effort. The players on this team have had nothing but good to say about the team as a whole despite their struggles. Senior co-captain Amay Munjal stated that he learned that "Having energy and spirit can win you a game just as much as skill can." This is an example of never getting too low and staying as a unit. The Hawks soccer team has a bright future and with a lot of players returning next year, they should be in good shape for the next soccer season. This next season will be in the winter, as the soccer team gets a new coach, Bel Haouala.

The Hawks volleyball team on the other hand have had a fantastic season and placed third in the regional playoffs. Led by senior co-captain Lauren Horowitz and junior co-captain Emerson Myers, this team has found great success through building tight bonds that help them out on the court. Lauren Horowitz said that one of her two main goals this year was to "build real connections with everyone on the team, "which they have all done” which should help them accomplish Lauren’s second goal which is to "make it back to state." This team is the perfect example of how far team chemistry can take you. Although they are very skilled, the thing that makes this team competitive is their bond. Junior co-captain Emerson Myers said that this year the team has "tried to implement more personal things into volleyball, such as team bindings, secret sisters and different warm up partners" which are just some of the examples of what this tight knit group does to stay close. They unfortunately got knocked out of the first round of the playoffs but had a great overall season.

The Hawks swim squad this season really emphasized motivation, and being supportive throughout the year. This team was led by senior captain Bela Sadler and senior swimmer Desiree Blute, who will swim at Denison next year. This team cheered on their teammates each and every swim meet. Desiree Blute said that the team was "very supportive of each other at meets" and that they would "be on the side or behind the blocks cheering for every race." This team didn't have very many people but had a lot of heart. Desiree Blute and Rhys Blair are headed to states and will be cheered on. They worked hard all season and worked together super well because of the support they all provided to each other.

The chess team has had a very successful season this year, as they are headed to states. Led by junior Victor Badyaev, the chess team has found great success even with a whole bunch of new players and freshmen on the squad. Chess is 3rd in the division this year, going 2.5-2.5 in their 5 5v5 matches. Senior member Ben Head says that “this team is very fun to be around, I love practicing with them and getting better whether it is with someone who isn’t as experienced, or someone who has a lot of experience. There is always something to learn.” Ben has taken a big role, as he has built relationships with each and every player on the team. In the individual tournament, Victor Badyaev won 3.5-5, which has them qualified to state, where we wish them great luck.

The Hawks had a very successful fall season, whether it was winning lots of games or building team chemistry and lifelong bonds for next season. All of these seasons were considered successes even though some haven't accomplished the mutual goal of winning states, every player on these teams have expressed their gratitude for being a part of these teams.
