The Eastmark Firebirds bounced back with commanding flair on Sep 23, shutting out Paradise Honors 28-0 on the strength of a suffocating defense and balanced offense.
The Firebirds had a solid defense, forcing numerous turnovers and halting an undefeated Paradise Honors offense. Quarterback Paige McCrabb showcased her dual-threat abilities, and receiver Mikaela Oberstein emphasized sound chemistry and communication.
Eastmark head coach Nick Garces attributed his players’ resilience following an early-season setback to the Marana Tigers.
“That game wasn’t our identity,” he said. “The girls stepped up, ran better routes, blocked harder, and played faster. It was about them bringing their game up.”
McCrabb delivered a steady dual-threat effort, showing improved poise under pressure.
“She’s finally owning it,” Garces said. “She’s throwing in rhythm, keeping her eyes downfield, and making plays on the run.”
Receiver Oberstein pointed to the team's chemistry, saying communication has been the difference in being successful.
The Firebirds’ defense established the tone with the first snap. Multiple interceptions shut down Paradise Honors, which entered the contest undefeated. Eastmark’s line pressured the quarterback throughout the game, coming with hurried throws and keeping the Panthers scoreless.
“We’ve doubled our points every week,” Garces said. “We’re getting better, but I still feel we’ve left points on the board.”
With the win and a victory over St. Mary's on September 25, Eastmark improved to 3-1, getting the pace going for its 4A season. Dysart is next on the Firebirds’ agenda, playing on the road on October 9.
