No. 1 seed Corona del Sol showed the kind of resolve it will take in keeping in the hunt for the 2025 6A state baseball title.

With every game an elimination game for Corona the rest of the tournament after Saturday's 2-0 loss to Red Mountain, the Aztecs excelled in every facet Tuesday in defeating No. 8 seed Sandra Day O'Connor, 13-5, at Corona del Sol.

Corona has the chance to turn the tables on fourth-seeded Red Mountain (24-5) on Friday at Mesa's Hohokam Stadium. Game time is 4 p.m.

Red Mountain has won all three of its games in the tournament, beating Tolleson and Brophy in addition to Corona in its other tourney games.

O'Connor finished the season 21-12. The Eagles were Desert Valley Region champs, earning a tie-breaker over Mountain Ridge in region play for the top spot.

They lost three times to Corona this season - once in the regular season and both its tournament losses.

Corona (24-6) collected 12 hits and scored in five of the six innings it batted on Tuesday. The Aztecs broke the game open with six runs in the fourth inning, sending 11 batters to the plate in the frame.

Those runs built their lead to 11-2 and made an O'Connor comeback unlikely. Corona also played an error-less game.

Leading Corona offensively were Kellen Tom and David Moss, who cranked out three hits apiece. Moss drove in three runs.

Conner Rae and Connor Long each went 2-for-3. Rae belted the game's only home run - a two run shot to right-center field in the six-run fourth.

We've been resilient when we've lost this season," Corona coach David Webb said. "We've come back and played well each time (four times)."

Webb said he felt good vibes coming in to the game.

"We had a fantastic practice (Monday)," Webb said. We've been resilient when we've lost. We've come back and played well each time after a loss."

Corona seniors Brett Crossland and Ryan Caruso did the pitching, with Crossland picking up the win after throwing 4 2/3 innings.

He surrendered three runs, three hits, walked five and struck out six. Caruso tossed the final 2 1/3 innings.
