Errors lead to the 25-2 loss for Tempe high school's home baseball game against the Glendale Cardinals.
Before game time the Buffaloes made sure to lift each other up and get each other fired up.
The team huddled before running on the field to remind each other to have less errors this game and get more at bats, Stanor Kobeney said.
Positive communication was being used around the whole field. The fans were able to hear the team uplifting each other as things didn’t go their way.
The team made sure each player knew where the next play should take place. First basemen Elias Johnson made sure his voice was heard to help his team.
“Make sure to turn three,” Elias Johnson said in the first inning as the Cardinals were on second base.
The Buffaloes head coach Ed Johnson made sure to remain vocal the whole game trying to help his team in any way he could. Coach Johnson talks to his team throughout the game so they know what things they should be doing, but also says things in a positive manner so the energy doesn’t drop.
“Positive communication uplifts these boys,” Coach Johnson said. “The more I talk the more it reminds each player to use their own positive communication.”
Simple mistakes were the Buffaloes biggest enemy of their game against the Cardinals.
Though simple errors allowed for runs to come in the Buffaloes did not stop their drive when it came to getting the ball in.
Center fielder, Dereon Richardson and right fielder, Diego Garcia had a ball drop right in front of them in the first inning of the game, but made sure to get the ball in quick to ensure no runs came in.
Even through the mistakes players like third baseman Ronin Miller, who caught a low line drive and shortstop Stanor Kobeney who made a diving catch to keep the ball in front of him so no runs would come in, allowed for the energy to increase to get the Buffaloes out of the inning.
Simple errors are a part of any sport played, but it’s how a team handles those errors.
“Errors happen,” Coach Johnson said. “It’s about getting back on the field and getting back to the basics at practice.”
Buffaloes first baseman Elias Johnson brought up the energy in his first at bat in the second inning. Johnson had a pop up to left field and started off the inning high. Dereon Richardson, continued the energy by making contact with the ball and getting on base. No runs resulted in these positive at bats for the Buffaloes, but it allowed the team to lift their heads up.
“I think my hit motivated the team,” Kobeney said. “They got hyped when it happened.”
Pitching changes occurred three times in the game to change up the tempo.
“It’s a hit or miss,” Coach Johnson said. “Sometimes changing the pitcher is positive and sometimes it’s negative, today it was positive.”
Though the Buffaloes experienced simple errors throughout their game they try to remain positive and look to the next game to make sure they are ready to compete against their next opponent which will be the Dysart Demons.
“It was kind of a rough game,” Freshman Jerome Abundis said. “But it’s okay we are gonna get our game back up soon.”
