The Valley Christian Trojans showcased their talent and determination in a series of impressive performances, emerging victorious in the recent tournament. With wins over teams from multiple divisions, the Trojans proved once again why they are a force to be reckoned with.
In a commanding opening game, the Trojans defeated the Gilbert Tigers (6A) 8-1. Early sacrifice flies from Abrielle Jarles and standout hitting from Ryann Nelson, Amelia Bowman, and Corinne Rodgers established a lead the the Tigers couldn’t overcome. Makay Fraley secured the win with a stellar pitching performance, allowing just three hits over four innings while striking out eight.
Continuing their dominance, Valley Christian took down the Pueblo Warriors (5A) 9-3. Jarles delivered a standout performance, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, and a single. A seven-run third inning, highlighted by clutch hits from Sophie Kercsmar, Taya Clausen and Rodgers, sealed the victory. Leigha Kremlacek held Pueblo to three runs over four innings, striking out three.
The Trojans faced a tough battle against the Arcadia Titans (4A), resulting in a 1-1 tie. Fraley was dominant in the circle, allowing no earned runs while striking out nine. Bowman came through with a crucial RBI single to give Valley Christian their only run of the game.
A standout moment came when the Trojans overpowered the Millennium Tigers (6A) with a 9-4 victory. Fraley shined at the plate, going 3-for-3, while Kremlacek and Rodgers each contributed two RBIs. The early offensive surge proved too much for Millennium to overcome.
In a low-scoring affair, Valley Christian edged out the Show Low Cougars (3A) 3-1. Fraley once again led the charge, allowing only one run over five innings while fanning nine batters. Key contributions from Jarles, Kremlacek, and Bowman secured the win.
Perhaps the most thrilling game of the tournament came in the rematch against Arcadia Titans (4A), where the Trojans earned a dramatic 5-4 walk-off victory. Despite trailing 4-0, Valley Christian battled back to tie the game in the seventh inning before Clausen drew a bases-loaded walk in the eighth, sealing the win.
The Trojans closed out their tournament run with a resounding 13-7 victory over the Mountain View Mountain Lions (5A). Fraley continued her offensive tear, going 3-for-3 at the plate. Rodgers was unstoppable, driving in five runs, while Lo Colvin demonstrated patience with three walks.
This year’s triumph was particularly satisfying for Valley Christian, as the avenged their previous tournament loss to Mountain View Marana (5A) in last year’s semifinals. Last season, the Trojans went 6-1 in the Dobson/Westwood Softball Tournament, dominating several 6A schools. This year, they carried that momentum forward, defeating opponents from across divisions with unwavering determination.
With strong performances from Fraley, Jarles, Kremlacek, and the rest of the squad, the Valley Christian Trojans continue to cement their status as a formidable force on the softball field. Their resilience and teamwork promise an exciting season ahead.
