On Friday night the Perry juggernaut demonstrated what happens when it brings its 'A' game to the court, and it's not enjoyable for the opposition.

Thanks to a sizzling first quarter from Dominic Avalos, top seeded Perry jumped on visiting Brophy early before running the Broncos out of the gym with an 83-54 victory in a second round Open Division playoff game.
And it wasn't even that close.
Perry scored one point in the fourth quarter, as the reserves played the final eight minutes.

Avalos, a senior guard, came out red-hot, knocking down three 3-pointers in the first quarter and 14 total points as the Pumas jumped out to a 30-13 lead. Avalos finished the first half with19 points; while sophomore Bruce Branch III picked up the hot hand in the second quarter with 12 points and 17 for the first half, as the lead grew to 55-20 at the break.

Perry (23-2) will host No. 8 Ironwood next Friday night in a quarterfinal matchup. The real question is whether anyone can challenge the Pumas as they seek a fourth straight title.
Branch led all scorers with 26 points. Avalos finished with 22, while Harrison (15 points) and Peat (10 points) cleaned up inside, combining for 17 rebounds.

Regardless of Perry's superior talent or victory margin, it's a team that doesn't make any assumptions going forward.

"It's always one game at a time," Koa Peat said afterward. "These are my last couple games so I'm not taking anything for granted. I'm just trying to come out here and play with my guys.As a team I think we're just trying to come out here and trust eachother."

Peat also emphazised maintaining a defensive focus, which creates a lot of fast break opportunities. Combining the defensive pressure with the outside shooting of Avalos and Branch, and the fourpeat is a lock. The duo went 14 for 16 in the first half, as Peat and forward D'Andre Harrison were strong as usual on the boards and forcing Brophy to rely on outside shooting, where clean looks were hard to come by.

Senior sharpshooter Ryan Burbank struggled from the field and finished with just four points.
Junior Daylen Sharper was the only Bronco able to effectively penetrate and create his own shots. He had 12 of Brophy's 20 first half points and finished with 21 points and five rebounds in three quarters.

Nearly one month ago, Brophy gave Perry all it could handle for two and a half quarters before the Pumas pulled away. They didn't forget that game.
"I don't even have to tell these guys anymore because they know it's one game at a time, Perry coach Sam Duane Jr. added. "There are capable teams and we have to be ready for everyone."

Brophy (15-11) was the No. 17 seed in the Open but will await the 6A bracket seedings to be revealed Saturday morning.
