Outshot but efficient, Marana scored in the 62nd minute to tie Tucson 1-1 on the road and the score remained that way through overtime to give the Tigers the 6A South Region title over the Badgers on the final night of the regular season on Friday. No. 19 Marana (8-2-2 in ranking matches, 5-0-1 in region play) will have a favorable match in the Conference Play-In Tournament set for Thursday, Feb. 13 with the top 14 in the 6A Conference currently slated to take part in the Open Division starting on Tuesday, Feb. 11.

Without knowing the final seeding (the Open Bracket Show will be streamed Saturday morning), the Tigers will most likely host a Play-In match and the No. 23 Badgers (5-6-1, 4-1-1) will be on the edge of host or traveling.

Tucson dominated the field with an unofficial 24 shots to five for Marana but four of the five were on goal including the score from sophomore Paloma Borboa (Sydney Clare). The Tigers didn’t enter the box until the 25th minute and the first shot took place in the 37th minute, meanwhile, the Badgers took 12 shots in the first half alone, including a goal from senior Yajaira Cervantes Andrade in the 5th minute.

Andrade is one of the most dynamic players in the state but she was unavailable to the Badgers in overtime due to an injury during the match but the Badgers still had a couple of opportunities off of corner kicks down the stretch that came up short. Marana beat Tucson 1-0 at home on Jan. 22 in the first region match between the two and Tucson beat Marana 1-0 at the preseason Brandon Bean Tournament on Dec. 2.
