In Valley Christian's recent match up, the girls flag football team came just short of a victory. The game ended in a loss of 14-0 to the Prescott Badgers. While Valley's defense made its best effort to hold the other team's offense, Valley's offense could not hold up their end, finishing the game with a loss.
Offensively, Junior Rylee Randleman carried the team in receiving yards, averaging 20 yards per pass. Though she managed a few plays downfield, the Valley Christian Trojans did not capitalize against Prescott's defense. Rylan Ernst shared, "we were aware they were a ranked team; however, I think we came out as strong as we could and put up a good fight against them."
The defense was led by Randleman, freshman Kenzie Hackett, and sophomore Averi White who each had a few key plays throughout the game. White made an incredible play and pulled the flag of the opposing team just one yard from Valley's end zone. Randleman and Hackett also pulled through on defense with interceptions that gave the ball back to Valley Christian. However, despite the defensive effort, the Trojan offense could not pull through to put themselves on the board.
In the pass rush, both Junior Cyharis Barrett and Freshman Mackenzie Henderson together had two sacks on the quarterback, continually putting pressure on the Badgers quarterback throughout the game. The pressure kept the opposing team's quarterback on edge, but their offense still managed to execute plays.
Overall, Valley Christian fought hard but came short of another victory. The team will continue to get better and learn from the mistakes of the game. Hopefully, the Trojans will learn from this game and bounce back in their next game, even better than before, and bring back a victory against their upcoming opponent, Desert Sunrise.
