On Thursday, September 19th the Valley Christian Trojans faced off against the Scottsdale Christian Eagles. The Trojans were eager to win after falling the week prior to Seton Catholic. Winning this game would help them end a three-game losing streak and set up a stronger momentum to finish the season.
Besides letting up one touchdown in the first quarter, the Trojans had an extremely dominant performance led by junior Asher Hanzal who recorded a whopping 172 receiving yards. Asher had two touchdowns along with jaw dropping catches all throughout the game, contributing a big part in the Trojans' win.
When asked about the overall feeling of the game Hanzal said, "it was unmatched and felt good to beat Scottsdale and get a good win."
Hanzal continues to play a huge role in the program and looks to stay hot.
Another huge factor in the win was junior quarterback JR Gill, who took complete control of the offense throughout the game. Gill had 250 passing yards to go along with four touchdowns.
When asked about the win JR shared, "It felt great to break the losing streak and come out with a rewarding win."
JR had a great game, and it was clear he knew exactly what he was doing as soon as he stepped out on the field.
The Trojans' offense and defense were both persistent throughout the whole game, and they knew right from the jump that this game was going to be theirs. They showed no signs of stopping and piled on points again and again.
The Trojans needed this win to boost their record and more importantly, their confidence. They are rolling into next week with a lot of courage after this huge win in attempt to birth a new and strong and new winning streak for the Trojans.
